so i spent the past weekend in san diego, a nice break from omaha.....until it came time to go home. i got to the airport super early (like 4 hours early. did you know they won't let you check in your baggage more then 4 hours before your flight?) unfortunately i was unable to get on an earlier flight, so i was stuck spending the afternoon in the san diego airport. suprisingly i used most of the time wisely and did some of the school work i had missed while away. as it got closer to my departure time my flight became delayed 2 HOURS!!! now since omaha is the happening place it is, there was only one flight from denver that could get me home that night. the only problem was i now needed to just be in denver. i felt like i was living in one of those choose your own adventure books. here were the options i was given. option 1. try to get on the flight (of course i'd be on stand by) that was leaving to denver that would get me to denver 5 minutes before the flight to omaha left and maybe make the connecting flight and maybe not. if i missed my connecting flight i'd be stuck in denver until 9:30 the next evening, unless i could get on an earlier flight, there was a possibility of getting on the 7 am flight the next morning but that just depended if it filled up before then. that choices left a lot up to chance. option 2. i could hang out in san diego for two hours more and just book the 7am flight from denver right then. or option 3. i could take a 7:30 pm flight to chicago and then catch a 6 am flight to be back in omaha by 7:30 am just with enough time to get home and change for my 9 am class.
well i took my chances and went with option 1. i made it on to the flight to denver and we made our connecting flight. after i got on the plane i realized my luggage probably wouldn't. not so bad you'd think except my apartment keys were in my suitcase, my phone charger in my suit case (yes, my phone was on the last bar). so i called my roommate who just so happened to be coming back to omaha that night also to tell her i needed her to let me in the apartment. her flight was supposed to get in at 12:30am just a half hour after mine. i thought my luck had turned around until i got a voicemail from her explaining that her flight had been delayed 2 hours! wow was luck on my side. good news is though our door buzzer goes to my cell phone so i was able to get into my building. but don't worry i did sit against my door reading a book for about two hours hoping my phone would last long enough to know when my roommate got there to let me in. it was around 3 am that i got into bed that night. did i pick the best option? who knows but one thing is forsure i've never been so excited to be back in omaha.
